All in all this book is a real winner, showing that you do not need to go to the expense of using a boat to experience great diving. It is a handy A5 size, so can be carried to the dive site. It contains all the information to enable you to find and enjoy the dive with sufficient description to inform and tantalyse. It is presented in a style that entices you to browse through and discover the richness and diversity of the locations described.

This is the work of Anita Sherwood who produced the highly acclaimed DVD, “British Sea Life”. Her photographic skill and artistry are beautifully exhibited in this excellent book. The pages are colourful. Each site is clearly described, has a photograph of the entry point and a map. In addition to the essential write up of each dive about sixteen other key points of information are given, such as Air fill, Hazards, B&B, Coastguard and Tourist info. The sites included are in sections headed East and West Scotland, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, South East England, East England and Wales. There is also a selection of fresh water dives and a marine life identification section.

This top can be worn on its own as a thermal top, with a pair of Thermocline shorts (as shown), as a lightweight shortie, or over a Thermocline explorer as a lightweight full suit. Alternatively, layer this underneath a neoprene wetsuit to increase thermal protection of the body core by the equivalent of an extra 2mm of neoprene, without affecting your buoyancy.

Great Ocean Adventures

The filming of the television series Great Ocean Adventures was an extremely ambitious undertaking.

A crew of five with a shoestring budget set out on a complete circumnavigation of the globe, seeking out the iconic and mysterious giant animals of the world's oceans.

The team encountered killer whales, giant octopus, ferocious Humboldt squid, beluga whales, thresher sharks, ocean sunfish, humpback whales, and basking sharks.

During the course of their extraordinary journey they were perpetually tired, frequently frightened, occasionally ill, and often foul smelling. Nonetheless the resultant series offered a glimpse into a world far off the beaten track, and aired to tremendous reviews.

This book tells the behind-the-scenes story of the filming of Great Ocean Adventures, revealing the real experiences of a film crew on the road, the ups and downs of wildlife filming, and the cast of characters and places that act as a backdrop for a remarkable journey. Great Ocean Adventures is illustrated throughout by stunning images from the Scubazoo Agency cameramen in the team, and from other award winning photographers, several of whom accompanied the team at various stages of the journey.

The journey involved all the crew taking 37 flights around the world, conducting over a hundred dives each, and filming each one of the ten episodes completely in only five days. Conditions ranged from diving in water of 1 Celsuis in Newfoundland, to 30 Celsius in Palau.

Each encounter was special, however certain stood out even amongst the ocean giants featured in the series. The Humboldt squid in the darkness of the Sea of Cortez made a real impression on everyone in the team, as did the giant sun fish off Bali. Closer to home the basking sharks off Scotland gave a glimpse of a British giant, whilst the mantas off a deep ocean mount in the Pacific created a huge response from the viewing public.
